Emphasis is placed on conformation, stable
temperaments and movement as well as the lovely color. All
breeding stock is tested for the common Standard concerns such as
Hip Dysplasia, eye health and blood and skin disorders. This
expensive testing helps minimize some (but not all) of the risks
involved for the breed. Most serious breeders will have tested
their breeding stock for at least these concerns.
Adult dogs are members of my small family and
welcomed as house guests. They are fed a diet of 50% the premium
dry food, Solid Gold Holistic, and 50% raw foods such as beef
kidney, heart, liver, ground round steak, poultry hearts and
wings, milk, eggs and yogurt. They also receive a micronutrient
supplement based on Norwegian Kelp. Raw meaty bones are fed daily.
Because I'm not growing show coats on my dogs, they get tons of
exercise free running on the beach, chasing gulls and herons and
splashing in the ocean. This keeps them very fit and well muscled.
The occasional litters are planned well in
advance to produce Standard Poodle puppies who are genetically and
physically healthy as well as good representatives of the breed
standard based on AKC guidelines. Puppies are raised in the house
under foot and temperament evaluated according to prescribed
guidelines by canine behaviorists. Babies are vaccinated and
wormed of course, before selling. Litters are fairly and honestly
evaluated at 8-12 weeks and priced accordingly. |
